MiDiccio v1.4.9 and an iCloud Sync Fix
MiDiccio v1.4.9 is out. We also fixed an issue with iCloud sync on iOS.
iCloud sync fix (iOS)
Section titled “iCloud sync fix (iOS)”Words added, edited, or deleted on your other devices were not reaching this device. We fixed a setting on the iCloud side on November 2, and the issue is resolved. Sorry for the trouble.
- You don’t need to update the app. The next time you open it, changes from your other devices will arrive.
- None of your words were lost. Everything that didn’t arrive before will arrive now.
- If you edited the same word on more than one device, the most recent edit is kept.
- Words deleted on other devices move to Trash. You can restore them from there (except words you deleted permanently).
- The Android version, and devices that don’t use sync, were not affected.
What’s new in v1.4.9
Section titled “What’s new in v1.4.9”- Tapping the sync button now syncs right away. While syncing, the button shows that it is in progress.
- On Android, Settings shows the Google account you are signed in to.
- When you sign out, you can choose to keep or delete the data on the device.
- When you sign in on a device that has data from another account, the app asks whether to combine it.
Developer notes
Section titled “Developer notes”iCloud (CloudKit) keeps the data layout settings separately for development and production. We had added a setting needed for reading data only to development, and forgot to add it to production. So in production, the app could send data but couldn’t receive it.
The app treated this failure as “no data”, so sync showed “complete” and we didn’t notice. We found it while reinstalling a test build connected to production. Once we added the setting to production, all the words waiting in iCloud came through.
In the next version, the app will show this kind of failure as an error. We are also adding a production check to our release steps.
